Shel Silverstein

Sometimes I really miss having my dad
recite random poetry to me---usually of a nature
that my mother huffily disapproved of, but
had to try hard not to laugh at along with us.
I really loved commuting with my dad my first year
of early college--one day it was raining and he sang a
song about rain drops falling on sad Tim's head all the
way from Willard to Mantua. Good times. Here's some
stellar oldies and goodies:

"My beard grows down to my toes,
I never wears no clothes,
I wraps my hair
Around my bare,
And down the road I goes."
---insert
Rasmussen children singing "Ba da
dum da dum dee dum dee dum dee dum."

""I cannot go to school today"
Said little Peggy Ann McKay.
"I have the measles and the mumps,
A gash, a rash and purple bumps.

My mouth is wet, my throat is dry.
I'm going blind in my right eye.
My tonsils are as big as rocks,
I've counted sixteen chicken pox.

And there's one more - that's seventeen,
And don't you think my face looks green?
My leg is cut, my eyes are blue,
It might be the instamatic flu.

I cough and sneeze and gasp and choke,
I'm sure that my left leg is broke.
My hip hurts when I move my chin,
My belly button's caving in.

My back is wrenched, my ankle's sprained,
My 'pendix pains each time it rains.
My toes are cold, my toes are numb,

I have a sliver in my thumb.

My neck is stiff, my voice is weak,
I hardly whisper when I speak.
My tongue is filling up my mouth,

I think my hair is falling out.

My elbow's bent, my spine ain't straight,
My temperature is one-o-eight.
My brain is shrunk, I cannot hear,

There's a hole inside my ear.

I have a hangnail, and my heart is ...
What? What's that? What's that you say?
You say today is .............. Saturday?

G'bye, I'm going out to play!""

hiking pics

Here's a bunch of pictures, in no particular order cause I don't have the time to arrange them, of the awesome hikes Aleesha, Chris Bentley, and I went on this Monday. We started out climbing Ben Lomond, ran in to mounds of snow, and switched to a hike called Malan's Peak, which was about 6 miles, and fairly steep on the way up. SO much fun though, I wish I had time to go through all my sweet pictures, but this'll do.

Book

Andrea gave me this great series to read. And then I found out it was a New York Times Bestseller and none of the libraries had the 4th and 5th book available...so I broke down and bought it....only to find out that it is an Australian author, and the 6th and 7th books aren't available in the US yet. AHHHHHH!!!!!!!!! So I had a week of staying up until 2am to read the sweet story, and then...nothin'. And right in the middle of the beautiful lady in a tower and the ranger dude in the forest trying to save her, and the knight on his way to help them both....AHHHHH the AGONY!

Good Chillaxin' Craziness

Lets just say I'm an awesome sister and aunt---cause I got my niece and bro out of 2 hours of church...my bro offered to drive me to Mendon, and my niece was having issues with our ward's primary. Good times had by all on the drive.
After dinner I did some braiding and some nail painting. Good bonding girl time. Then we vamped things up on the trampoline where I won THREE bum wars. It was pretty intense. Then for some reason my nephew and I did some major jousting in the front yard that turned to tae kwon do and shooting and bow and arrows...it was intense. Especially since we'd fall to the ground from a punch that was thrown two feet away. HAAHAAA.
Then there was the swing time where I told dad I was building a house in his back yard and never moving away.
Then there was the cap gun fight where my sister came in and handed guns and ammo to everyone, told us the girls were bad and boys were good and the gold was in the barn. Major excitement had by everyone. Lets just say the bad side can win. Haahaa. The funniest was Danica blasting a cap gun right by her ear and then sheepishly saying "its not the first time I've done that." HAAHAA! Also, when grandma took off to the cover of the nearest truck, and Danica exclaimed "I HAVE a plan!" then jumped about two feet in the air as she bounded off. HAAHAAA.
We only had a few casualties throughout the day. Kiersten's fat lip....and multiple green feet(the grass is still pretty wet).
Mom ended the day perfectly by having angel food cake, whipped cream and strawberries. My life is absolutely heavenly---I can't even handle it.

Summer Livin'

I wish I had taken a picture of my new pad...but I didn't, so you'll have to settle for a description. I took my last final last Tuesday, and moved in to my new place on Wednesday-spent a day at mom and dad's in Hyrum, worked, and spent Friday at the institute having an absolutely FABULOUS time from about 2 until midnight. This years council is going to be FAB!
Back to my new apartment, or rather, my new basement bedroom, or rather, my not-so-new basement bedroom. My last apartment was REALLY big, open, spacious, and had four bathrooms and two fridges for the six girls that lived there. Lots of space, a walk-in closet, and I must say, I was pretty much spoiled--especially since my roommates scholarship covered part of my rent, so it was cheaper for me than it really should've been. My basement now will save me $60 a month, which is a goodly sum when added up between several months, but lets just say...we taped our ceiling together the night we moved in. Dad was more than a little concerned about the state of the house, and its really old. BUT---I am growing very quickly attached to my basement bedroom. Enough room for both me and my new roommate Kathryn, a large bathroom with two closets, and the lady upstairs just painted a wall and put in a new fridge in the basement just for me and Kathryn so we aren't so squished up in the kitchen (we share a kitchen, which I haven't really tried yet, since I've been getting free dinners at linger longers and at FHE, so we'll see) but for some reason I just love old houses, and I'm thinking this place is going to be great....if somewhat of an adventure :).
I also started my second job today--a housekeeper at a hotel. And yes, I get to knock on the door and say "housekeeping!" haahaa. Its a bran-spankin'-new hotel, and a little small, and I got the job cause one of my really good friends is the Housekeeping Manager, and her uncle owns the hotel, and today went really quickly, and really well. I actually find it really rewarding to clean up a room and leave it sparkling clean. I get to turn on the tv's while I'm working, and since I'm hopelessly behind on world news, I'm excited to catch up. I'm also full-time at JCP again, and lovin' that. The store was 8months old when I started working there last summer, and we had some SLOW days, but people remember its there now, and we have a steady flow of customers, which means I'm never bored and enjoy it a lot more. So here comes a summer of 60 hours of work a week! At least it'll pay for my last year of school, and then, no more odd jobs for me---I'll be cleaning teeth for good! YAY!(or at least, thats the hope)
Tonight I am back in Hyrum for a wedding reception, one of my best friends from MCHS, and I really can't believe I'm old enough to get married. I'm really happy for her though. Congratulations Meagan!!!! Thats all my news, boring, and dry, maybe, but thats my life!
