Class 1B/2
So today was lovely on my classifications. I was able to get half a mouth of Class II and half a mouth of Class 1B. What an accommodating pt! Haahaa. I took four horizontal BWX on the scanX...I don't know what I'm going to do in an office that doesn't have the up-to-date phosphur plates cause I absolutely LOVE them!!!!! No retakes, happy day, I did great on my scale check, and actually it all went really well. I did two quads of class II and saved the other quads for a recall date. I wish I had been a little faster... but its slowly coming. I did have to ultra sonic full mouth, which is probably why I didn't manage to scale full mouth. I also did two PE's, so I'm done with Class II's and with the PE's for Class II's!!!!! YAY!

2-23-09
Here comes another one........!!!!! Once again, I have a Class II. This means that I only need half the mouth of this pt. Try explaining that to someone! "Sorry, I only need half of your mouth, but another girl REALLY needs the other half, because she hasn't had a mouth like yours yet....could we share you????" Poor pt of mine. Plus, I'm pretty positive my pt coming in on Wed is a Class II. I was excited to schedule her with that thought in mind--but now I don't need her??!!?!?!?!? AHHH!!!! So. What to do. We'll dwell on that one later. On other news, I did a full mouth of xrays today on my pt with NO RETAKES!!!!!!! It was fabulous. My pt was fabulous, and worked really well, I LOVE phosphur plates, and it went smoothly. It took a long time, my pt got a little antsy. Sorry!!!! At least I didn't have to take a retake! But this was my first bout of PA's and my first full mouth--so today was definitely an accomplishment, even though my pt was bored and was a little annoyed I think at how little it seemed was accomplished today. Sorry! Thats how it goes when I'm a student I guess!

Class 1B
I have decided, that as much fun as Class II's are, and as much fun as it is to find calculus, class 1B's are SO SMOOTH!!!!!!! My patient called me last night, as she was throwing up.....sad day. So I got a little nervous and texted specifically some people I knew had mentioned they could come, and then freaked out a little and mass texted the general population at large. My good friend and old comrade in dental assisting answered the call and SHE DESERVES SO MUCH LOVE!!!!! She couldn't make it on time, so I thought that we might not be able to finish, but oh no. We finished, plus took four xrays, did not need ANY retakes, did not have ANY calculus spots (probably cause she didn't have any to begin with, but hey) and completely finished---leaving her with a gunky, varnish smile as she walked out the door. THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!! I have a feeling I will be in so many peoples debt by the time this semester is over.

Spoiled and Giving Kids a Smile
Pretty much I am spoiled rotten and I love it. So I already posted about my lovely red cowboy boots (they haven't arrived yet, hence no pictures. Apparently they weren't ordered, but in recompense they are coming straight to my parent's house---yay!!!) and then mom proceeded to give me RED tupperware measuring cups, spoons, a little container for sauces, and best of all a RED peeler. I love it. But best, best, best of all....I GOT A TOOL BOX!!!!!!! I don't really know if I want to be twenty at all....but it is sure reassuring to know that I now own a toolbox. Maybe I can fix my own bike now without calling.....we'll just leave it at that :).
Not only was I crazy spoiled for my birthday, but I had the BEST weekend EVER!!!! It started out Friday morning with going to the Draper Temple Open House with my best friend Aleesha, her roommate Jessica, and Jessica's mom. The temple was BEAUTIFUL!!!!! I loved every little bit of it. I wanted to move in. There was an amazing spirit there, and I just can't wait to go through! Then I headed to Provo and spent the entire afternoon with Aleesha. Not doing anything really, and it felt WONDERFUL! I didn't move my backpack from its spot in the car, I didn't think about it, I didn't worry about undone homework....it was absolutely blissful. After sleeping through most of Robin Hood, I drove home only to wake up and help with Give Kids A Smile.
This is a program that WSU has been doing for four years now, where the second week of February on a Saturday they do as much dental work as they can on a kid right then, for free. Absolutely free. Dentists just volunteer their time, students take xrays, work on sterilization of the instruments so we have enough continually being cleaned, front desk area, and cleaning the teeth and once we had an okay from the dentist we could do sealants. Some kids' mouths were generally clean and I was just happy that the parents were aware enough to be trying their best to take care of their child's health. Other kids had calculus build-up like I've only seen so far on my Class II patients, and it took awhile to clean them--and the entire time I was trying to keep their spirits up but also educate them on how very, very, very important it is to keep these teeth clean or they will have all sorts of problems that cost lots to fix. I got some practice in on doing sealants---12 on one kid!!!! So that was a great day.
I then drove to Logan and got a great hello from.....a bunch of kids in the kitchen. It was very loving, but a little mysterious that no adults were around!!!! They came out of hiding eventually :). Sunday I spent partying with family and on Monday mom spoiled me rotten and I met up with two of my high school buddies, Meagan and Holly, for lunch. That was tons of fun to just catch up on life, rewind a little bit, and see how different, or how much the same, things have been in the last two years than we imagined. Mom fed me dinner and I headed home.
After such a wonderful weekend I didn't really like the alarm blaring at 6am, but I did get up and I made it to campus in relative safety, which is saying a lot. Its been snowing like crazy ALL DAY LONG!!!!!!!! So they are kicking me out of the library in ten minutes and shutting down campus. It's only four in the afternoon guys! Guys!!?!?!?! HELLO!?!??!?!?!?! Oh well, at least I finished my Stats assignment. I wonder if I'll manage to make it to work.

Already
It is a good day already and its only 8:30!!!! But, when you've been up since 4:45, I suppose a good portion of things can happen. Yesterday I did not that hot on a statistics exam....I was really annoyed cause I felt like I knew what I was doing. Math can be deceiving like that. So I told myself if I studied really hard for the next four hours at the library with no distractions, I could go swing dancing. And I did, and it was great. I don't know where all my energy came from---I've been averaging four hours of sleep a night this week---but come it did, and I had a FABULOUS time!!!!! So much fun, in fact, that I came home and had to relive it step-by-step for my roommate Kelsey, who listened to me even though she was falling asleep. Thanks Kelsey! Then I went to bed sometime around 1am, and woke up at 4:45am to study some more. And it sure paid off! 100% on my first pharm test! YAY!!!!!! Also, to boost my spirits, I am JCP Associate of the month. I haven't figured out what that means. But they took my picture. Hm. I hope it means something more than that :). And happy birthday to Billy. It really is a stupendous day. Too bad I have to go now and sit in class for the next six hours and then go to work for 5 and a half hours after that. Sigh. :)

Clinic and Snow
So today started out grand, I slept in until 6:30...I was so excited. My roommated even commented on how wild that was for me! Haahaa. Then we didn't have to have a pt, we got to practice things on each other today!!!! Ah, memories of good ol' last semester when we were still allowed to not know anything. Sigh. This meant no pt, no stress that they wouldn't show, no stress in general. Then it started snowing. It still is. I want to hole up in the library and never resurface. Unfortunately, thats just what might happen this afternoon.

Last night I was dancing in the rain.....and then I woke up to massive amounts of heavy, wet, snow. I had a marvelous morning at the gym, wore my nice polka dot boots around campus to keep my feet dry and warm, had a nice chat with my dad where he gave me some much-desired soup cans.....and then I had my patient.
This is the third time I have seen this patient, so I finished an hour early, but I passed off two PE's-- both Class II specific PE's, so thats kinda nice---watched some mountains of calculus fly off when I used the ORANGE TIP!!!! I thought that was reserved for Class III, and IVs, but nothing happened with my slim little green tip, so we upgraded, and I really enjoyed it. Made life SO much easier. Whoever invented the Ultrasonic should be blessed. I also really like the instructor I have on Mondays and so clinic days seem a lot less stressful and I feel like I am taught a lot more, yay for Mondays!!!! AND....drum roll....we have clinic on Wednesday, but they are teaching us more about the ultrasonic so I DON'T HAVE TO HAVE A PT!!!! This week is going fabulously already. Lets just hope I can get my car out of the parking lot and safely to my home. oh yeah, and ps I got a prescription from the dr. today for PerioMed, its weird actually prescribing something to a pt.

So..my pt cancelled at 10:30 last night. I usually don't even text and call people that late, but I sure was last night!!!! It definitely makes you realize all the people who love you and you can depend on, because I had a couple friends, my mother, and my roommate who all pitched in to help me find a patient. Luckily, my awesome friend that I accompany for sometimes was able to come in, and even though it was rushed, I was able to do two PE's with him, scale four quads, and completely finish him! I spent way too long on one quad, but I still get a little nervous that it isn't perfect. But after no missed spots I moved quicker, and he actually LIKED the varnish!!! Well, I like it, but nobody else does...so that was a surprise! I am so so so so so VERY VERY VERY grateful that he was willing and able to come in, and today was productive and happy rather than a complete waste with no pt. Now on to stats......

2-2-09
My patient had to leave by 2, so by the time I got her in, and started, it seemed like she had to go! It was my first experience with some major mandibular tori, but she was PHENOMAL in her ability to just stick out the pain, and bite all the way for me...good thing, because I picked digital on her, which was probably the worst choice for a mouth like that! I only probed half a mouth, so I didn't even finish OD, but technically, I would've been right on schedule had she been able to stay. I'm fairly confident (?) that I'll be able to finish her in one appt next time because I'm pretty sure she's a 1B and her mouth looked good. Thats all folks. The DH test killed me this morning, in a weird way. I felt like I knew everything, knew the answer to the questions, and then something somewhere went wrong! Luckily a few other girls I talked to felt the same, so hopefully I'm not as off as my score showed. I'm going to take a Stats test tonight, and then maybe my crazy-hectic-busy week will end (it extended over the weekend to today) and I will be able to breathe later. Breathing is good. ALSO for those of you who love to work out like me...I did SIX rolls this morning and I probably could've done seven....maybe, but my abs were already kinda tired. I feel like this is my greatest accomplishment of late. :)
